Radford Blanks Women's Soccer

LEXINGTON, Va.- Sophomore Lindsey Pendergraph and freshman Brianna Kipper each had two goals as Radford handed VMI an 8-0 Big South Conference loss Wednesday afternoon at Patchin Field.

Erin Cozza's header off of a corner kick in the second minute of the game began the scoring for the Highlanders and was followed in the eleventh minute by the first of Pendergraph's goals. Junior defender Rachel Rehm added assists on each of the first two goals.

Kipper and Pendergraph then scored back-to-back unassisted goals in the 35th and 38th minutes, before Lisa Channon and Debbie Leach finished off the Highlanders' first-half scoring.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, junior forward Jonita Hooker extended her 10-game scoring streak, scoring when her shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and sneaked over the goal line. Kipper added the final goal in the 61st minute on an assist by Jamie Branson.

"Radford's ability to move the ball has gotten much better since last year," said VMI head coach Julie Davis. "I don't think that our physical state was up to par today, we've been struggling with fatigue, illness and injuries. As a team, we just weren't able to collectively put something positive together on the field."

The game saw the end of a pair of streaks for Radford's Nikki Porter. Porter had previously had a point in every game this season, and had scored a goal in each of the Highlanders' last six matches.

Three Radford keepers combined to shutout VMI (0-9, 0-3 Big South), as Lauren Bergsten, Annaliese Yoder and Minta Trivette each saw time in net for the Highlanders. Jessica Rheinlander made six saves in the game for the Keydets.

VMI returns to action Sunday afternoon when they host Alabama A&M. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Patchin Field.
