Women's Soccer Wraps Up Season with Loss at UNCA

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- Ashleigh Carter's two goals and an assist led UNC Asheville to a 4-0 victory over VMI Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference play. With the win, UNCA (10-5-2, 6-0-2 Big South) claimed their first Big South regular season championship.

Olivia Korman's goal in the 12th minute came off of a double assist from Hilary McKay and Carter and gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. In the 38th minute, McKay got a goal of her own, her sixth of the season, off of an assist by Erin Trigonoplos.

VMI (0-16, 0-8 Big South) managed three shots in the second half, however, could not find a way to score against the Bulldog defense. Carter's goals in the 68th and 87th minutes were her first two of the season, and brought the final tally to 4-0.

VMI keeper Jessica Rheinlander made two saves in the contest, equaling UNCA's Rebecca Bostian's efforts in goal.

The Bulldogs outshot the Keydets by a 20-5 margin, and took 14 corner kicks in the contest. Each team was whistled for 14 fouls, while UNCA was called offsides three times to the Keydets' once.
