LEXINGTON, Va.- Seven different Longwood players scored goals, as VMI fell to the Lancers 9-1 in women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Patchin Field.
Freshmen Tessa Kofler and Stephanie Schroeder each tallied two goals in the contest, as Longwood improved to 3-11 on the season. VMI fell to 0-11.
Kofler scored both of her goals in the first half, while Schroeder scored one of her goals in the opening period. Stacy Crites and Nicole Hodgdon each scored their first goals of the season in the opening frame as well.
Just before halftime, VMI was awarded a penalty kick that sophomore Colleen Redmond successfully converted for her fifth goal of the season, as the Keydets cut the halftime margin to 5-1.
Longwood came out firing in the second period, scoring twice in the half's opening four minutes. Schroeder scored the half's first goal, while Tiffany Crane tallied her first goal of the season in the 49th minute. Shannan Mormando and Lexi Torrice rounded out the scoring, also scoring their first goals of the season.
Heather Storrie and Anne Whitmore each played 45 minutes in goal for Longwood, combining for eight saves for the Lancers. Jessica Rheinlander notched nine saves for the Keydets.
VMI returns to action Saturday, when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on Big South foe Birmingham-Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
