Gross Makes 11 Saves as VMI Women's Soccer Slips at Morehead State, 5-2

Morehead, Ky. -- Despite 11 saves by VMI goalkeeper Haley Gross, the Keydet women's soccer team was defeated, 5-2 at Morehead State on Friday evening.

The Keydets (2-5) got on the board first when freshman midfielder Hatley Clifford scored from the left side on a pass from freshman defender Anastasia Kovarik just 1:13 into the game.

Just 2:05 later, MSU midfielder Betsy Holbrook scored on a breakaway to knot the game at one, a score that the teams would go to halftime with.

Just one minute into the second half, MSU forward Brittney Cook dribbled through the defense and scored to put he Eagles (2-4-1) up, 2-1.

The Eagles widened the lead to 3-1 with 34:30 left in the game, when Holbrook scored from the left post. Christina Moore made the score 4-1 with 12:25 left as she scored on a high kick over the head of Gross.

The Keydets got back on the board with 3:21 left in the game, when freshman midfielder Karen Bill scored on a breakaway goal.

Moore finished the scoring for MSU and the game as she added a goal with just 1:07 remaining in the contest.

VMI will play host to Southern Virginia on Thursday at Patchin Field. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
