LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team scored five goals in an 18-minute period of the second half in defeating VMI, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.
The Chanticleers (6-4, 0-1 Big South) scored the first half's only goal, when sophomore forward Rachel Devine scored on a pass from fellow sophomore forward Roberta Parsons to put Coastal Carolina up, 1-0 at the 12:17 mark.
CCU heightened the lead to 3-0 as sophomore midfielder Kristina Fisher and Parsons scored goals just 1:42 apart to give the Chanticleers a 3-0 lead with 34:16 left in the game.
VMI (2-4) struck back just 58 seconds later, when freshman midfielder Raevon Pulliam (Yorktown, Va./ Tabb) scored her first career goal to narrow the gap to 3-1.
Parsons scored her second goal of the game with 15:04 remaining to put the Chanticleers back on the board with 15:04 left. Fisher added her second goal 1:25 later to make the score 5-1.
Junior midfielder Johanna Rosier capped the scoring, netting a shot after receiving a pass from freshman defender Heather Barnes with 7:13 remaining.
VMI freshmen goalkeeper Haley Gross (Fort Worth, Texas/ Paschal) made six saves on the afternoon. Coastal Carolina's senior Candice Doten made one second half save, while freshman Jaclyn Stoll made as second half save.
VMI will play again next Friday at Morehead State. The game will kickoff at 5 p.m. The Chanticleers will play at UNC Asheville on Friday at 4 p.m.
