McKay's Three Goals Lead UNC Asheville Past VMI Women's Soccer, 4-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Hilary McKay scored three goals in leading the UNC Asheville women's soccer team (6-4-2, 1-1-1 Big South) to a 4-0 win over VMI (3-7) on Sunday morning at Patchin Field.

The Bulldogs started the scoring 9:21 into the game as senior forward Kelsey Dawson scored on a header after receiving a pass from freshman midfielder Jennifer Supko.

Just over 10 minutes later, McKay scored the first of her goals, nailing a shot from 12 feet away. McKay struck again four minutes later on a breakaway goal that she slipped in the net.

In a competitive second half, McKay scored the stanza's only goal on a breakaway with 9:27 remaining.

VMI freshmen goalkeeper Haley Gross (Fort Worth, Texas/ Paschal) made seven saves, all in the second half. UNC Asheville's junior Rebecca Bostian made two stops on the day.

VMI will play two games in Alabama next weekend, facing Birmingham Southern next Friday evening and Alabama A&M on Sunday morning. UNCA will play at High Point on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00.
