Fall Camp Report: The Wide Receivers

LEXINGTON, Va. - Throughout fall camp, VMI Athletics will do a Q&A session with the offensive and defensive position groups in addition to special teams.

Today's report is on the status of the wide receivers corps and how it is preparing for the Idaho State season opener coming up next Saturday.

First-year Wide Receivers Coach Marcus Thomas provides his thoughts on Fall Camp and how the wideouts are coming along.

1. How would you assess how Fall Camp has gone for the receiving corps?
Coach Thomas: Fall Camp has been going well for the receiving corps. There are many players in the mix for playing time. I am pleased with the progress we have made.

2. With a spring and summer under their belt learning this offense, how have the receivers improved over the past few months?
Coach Thomas: The WR's have improved their understanding of the offense and overall mindset on where they fit.

3. Receivers typically don't get the ball thrown their way too often in a triple option offense. How do you keep your guys motivated to fulfill their roles as blockers and knowing their assignments?
Coach Thomas: The biggest motivation for the WR room is The Brotherhood. They are selfless and willing to help the team accomplish whatever mission the team is tasked with.

4. Which receivers have improved the most over the summer and throughout fall camp?
Coach Thomas: Zion Trump has improved as this is his first full offseason, returning from an injury last season. All of the freshmen have shown that they have the ability to potentially contribute in some way.
