Bagwell, Golding earn weekly NEC honors

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – After excellent outings versus Navy and Hampton this past week, VMI junior Dayton Bagwell and senior Nate Golding were recognized by the Northeast Conference in their weekly awards announced Monday.
 
After totaling 14 goals between the two games, Bagwell was named the NEC Player of the Week and a Prime Performer while Golding was also named a Prime Performer.
 
Bagwell scored seven goals apiece in each contest. In the hard-fought loss against Navy, many of his goals came while being defended by All-American defenseman AJ Marsh. On Saturday against Hampton with the game tied late at 15-15, Bagwell netted the game-winning goal and a security goal in the final minutes to lift the Keydets to a come-from-behind 17-15 road victory.
 
The York, Pennsylvania, native is averaging 5.25 goals per game, which is second-best across all NCAA Division I lacrosse programs, as he now has 21 goals after four games. He also accounted for an assist at Navy, took 23 shot attempts between the two contests and picked up three groundballs for the week.
 
Golding excelled as a short-stick defensive midfielder by picking up seven groundballs during the week, including four against Navy. The Granite Bay, California, native had an assist against Navy and scored one goal to help lift VMI to victory at Hampton to total two points for the week.
 
VMI prepares for a non-conference matchup this weekend at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Face-off is set for a noon start at the Queens Sports Complex and will be broadcast on the Queens University Sports Network.
