Thomas again named SoCon Field Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For a second consecutive week, VMI junior pole vaulter Cameron Thomas has been recognized as the Southern Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at last weekend's VMI Invitational.

He was the only recipient of a Southern Conference track and field honor named this week. Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all competitions from Jan. 21-27

The Windsor, Colorado, native won the individual title in the pole vault with a new school record height of 5.12m (16' 9.5"), breaking his own personal record of 5.11m set the weekend prior at the VMI Team Challenge.

The mark is ranked first in the SoCon above second-place Carter Ellis of Samford's height of 4.85m (15' 11").

VMI has this weekend off from competition but is preparing to compete at the VMI Winter Relays slated for February 6-7 at the CPTF.
