Men’s T&F earns excellent marks at VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – Competing in a modified event due to this weekend's expected snowstorm, the VMI men's track and field team earned excellent marks Friday at the 2026 VMI Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Originally a two-day meet, the event was pushed to one day in order to avoid the storm's arrival on Saturday.

Cameron Thomas again won the individual title in the pole vault with a height of 4.75 meters, a little shy of his school record 5.11m achieved last week at the VMI Team Challenge. Fellow vaulter Tyrus James came in second at 3.70 meters.

Excellent Marks
*Tazewell Rae came in second in the shot put at 15.05m while teammate Elisha Williams was close behind in fifth place and 14.75 meters.
* Freshman Deonte Harris finished second in the triple jump at 14.41 meters
*Rye Jackson finished fourth in the 400m in 49.77 seconds
*Jumper Vahin Middough came in fourth in the high jump at 1.93 meters
*Harris also competed in the long jump and finished fifth at 6.80 meters
*The 4x400 relay team of Taj Peace, Ben Hagerich, Rye Jackson and Cameron Lambert finished in fifth place
*Peace also ran the 800m and came in sixth place in 1:57.03
*Tazewell Rae led the group in the weight throw with a seventh-place mark of 14.62m

The Keydets compete at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University next weekend, Jan. 30-31, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
