Thomas named SoCon Male Field Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI junior pole vaulter Cameron Thomas has been named the Southern Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance this past Saturday at the VMI Team Challenge held at the CPTF.

Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all competitions from Jan. 14–20.

The Windsor, Colorado, native broke his own school record in the indoor pole vault as he earned a first-place finish at 5.11 meters, or 16' 9.25.''

The mark is presently the 51st-best height for the event in the NCAA and broke his previous school record height achieved last season when he registered a mark of 5.10 meters (16' 8.75") at the 2025 VMI Team Challenge.

"Cameron has now broken the indoor record with a 5.11m vault and ranks No. 51 on the national list," said VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott. "As the current outdoor record holder, the junior and team captain continues to make his mark for VMI on the pole vault runway and evolve as a leader."

Bradley Franklin of Samford was named the men's track athlete of the week while Jessica Edwards (Samford) and Lexie Durban (Western Carolina) earned respective track and field honors on the women's side.
