Thomas pole vault record highlights VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI junior Cameron Thomas earned a new school record in the indoor pole vault Saturday to highlight the VMI men's track and field team results at the VMI Team Challenge held at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

The Windsor, Colorado, native came in first place in the vault with a new school record height of 5.11 meters (16' 9.25"), which is presently the 39th best mark in NCAA Division I and #41 across all three divisions.
 
The height broke his previous school record achieved last season when he registered a height of 5.10 meters (16' 8.75") at the 2025 VMI Team Challenge.
 
Freshman Nicholas Russo came in first place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:36.41 as VMI's other individual champion of the day.
 
Vahin Middough logged a second-place height of 1.90 meters in the high jump for second place in the event, and fellow freshman Deonte Harris came in second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.69 meters.
 
Senior Ben Hagerich arrived in second in the 600 meter with a new PR time of 1:22.30, and freshman Taj Peace finished right after in third in 1:23.02.
 
The distance medley relay team consisting of Colin Crenshaw, Cameron Lambert, Nicholas Russo and Timothy Renquist placed second overall in 11:30.44 to conclude the meet.
 
Kevin Koumondji placed third in both the prelims and finals of the 60m dash, the latter resulting in a new PR time of 6.95 seconds.
 
Thrower Tazewell Rae finished third in the shot put at 15.39 meters and teammate Elisha Williams was right behind in fourth at 15.26 meters.
