Cross Country heads to JMU Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – Ready for competition after two more weeks of training and conditioning, the VMI men's and women's cross country teams head an hour north up I-81 to compete at the JMU Invitational Friday at the New Market Battlefield in New Market, Virginia.

The women's 5K is slated to begin at 5 p.m. while the men's 8K race will start at 5:45 p.m.

VMI looks to ride off the momentum from the meet two weeks ago at Shenandoah in which the men placed second behind senior Ben Hagerich's first-place finish and the women placed third overall. Sophomore Reagan Gilman led the way for the women with a second-place finish at the race.

VMI Head Cross Country Coach Tony Skiles
"We will be racing against some of the same teams we saw at the start of the 2025 campaign in Richmond. Each race is an opportunity to build on our performance and uncover the areas we need to improve before the next challenge. This week will reveal how far we have come since our first meet against these teams.

"This will also be the team's first 8K of the season. For the women, junior Jillian Sisk is set to make a powerful statement. The Keydets are committed to building on their achievements and gaining a deeper understanding of their rank among the best in Virginia."
