Women’s Cross Country finishes eighth at Richmond meet

RICHMOND, Va. – The VMI women's cross country team is off to a good start to the 2026 season after placing eighth Saturday morning at the Spider Alumni Open hosted by the University of Richmond at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

William & Mary finished first with 56 points followed by Georgetown in second with 71. Host Richmond took third with 73 points while JMU (108) and American (122) rounded out the top five schools at the race.

VMI finished eighth overall with 197 points.

Junior Reagan Gilman led the Keydets by placing 15th overall with a 4K time of 14:56 just ahead of senior Jillian Sisk's time of 14:59 for 18th place.

Freshman Caroline Swinson came in 69th place in her debut in 16:25 while junior Samantha Layton arrived in 75th place in 16:30. Freshman Lukah Sandine also scored team points for the Keydets in 79th place in 16:49.

Freshman Abigail Mox, senior Evelyn Anderson and junior Natalia Dias also competed for VMI.
