Women’s Cross Country takes fourth at Tryon meet

MILL SPRING, N.C. – The VMI women's cross country team earned an excellent finish Friday night at the Tryon Western NC XC Showcase as the team continues to build momentum for the SoCon race in a few weeks.

The Keydets took fourth place overall out of 12 schools with 127 points behind only Tennessee Tech (56), Furman (73) and North Greenville (91). VMI defeated SoCon foes Western Carolina and Wofford in the meet.

Junior Reagan Gilman paced the Keydets with a fourth-place finish with a 5K time of 18:16.7 just ahead of senior Jillian Sisk, who placed right behind her in fifth in 18:20.6.

Freshman Lukah Sandine came in third for VMI in 40th place in 19:57 a little ahead of Caroline Swinson's 43rd-place finish in 20:04. Junior Samantha Layton also earned team points in 46th place in 20:10.

Freshman Alexis Blue and senior Evelyn Anderson also competed for the Keydets.

"Today was a great indicator for where we are as team. Being able to run on the course that they will race on at Conference was a priority for us. On the women's side, Reagan and Jillian continued to lead the group with top tier performances. On the guys' side, Cameron and Patrick competed well to lead the men against a strong field."
