Four Keydets receive All-NEC honors

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – In the wake of VMI's most successful season in nearly 40 years, four VMI lacrosse team members were recognized by the league coaches and received Northeast Conference All-NEC honors for their work on the field during the 2025 season.
 
Senior attackman Luke Rusterucci earned First Team All-NEC honors, senior midfielder Wil Duffy and sophomore defenseman RJ Wyrick earned Second Team All-NEC accolades and freshman Zac Creel achieved NEC All-Rookie Team status for his efforts.
 
Luke Rusterucci - First Team All-Conference
The senior from Peachtree City, Georgia, scored 42 goals on the season – a career high – which marks the fifth highest single season total in VMI program history. He tallied 32 assists on the year – second highest in program history for a single season – to combine for 74 points, which breaks the single season points record held by David Hope (72) from the 1988 season.
 
He finished his VMI tenure last Saturday with 125 career goals – second highest in program history – to go with 109 career assists, which is the highest career assists total by a large margin (85 by Rob Worrell from 1994-97 is the second-highest total). His 234 combined career points rank second all-time in VMI history only behind David Hope's mark of 239 career points from 1986-89.

 
Wil Duffy - Second Team All-Conference
Duffy scored 15 goals during the 2025 season to go with a career-high 16 assists for 31 total points, also a career-high for a single season. Over his VMI tenure, he scored 50 goals and tallied 27 assists for a combined  77 points over four seasons.
 
Twice this season he earned a hat trick – once in a close overtime loss to High Point and the other in a dominant 20-7 win over Queens (N.C.). On three separate occasions during the year, he earned a combined four points against High Point (Feb. 8), a win versus Hampton Feb. 18 and in the penultimate win of the season at Wagner Apr. 19.
 

 
RJ Wyrick - Second Team All-Conference
One of the team's top defenders, RJ Wyrick finished tied for third on the team in caused turnovers with 13 for the season to go with 26 groundballs, the fourth highest total on the squad. He scored a rare goal for a defender in VMI's win at Mercer on February 15 to help lead VMI to a big road win in Macon, Georgia.
 
He caused two turnovers in VMI's road win at Iona, two versus Mercyhurst and had two in three of the four final games of the season.
 
Zac Creel - All-Rookie Team
The freshman from Dallas, Georgia, had an impressive rookie debut at VMI in which he played in 14 games and totaled 14 caused turnovers and 25 groundballs. His 14 caused turnovers ranked second highest on the team and his 25 groundballs ranked fifth highest among the Keydets.
 
His best game of the season came against Detroit Mercy on April 5 in which he totaled three groundballs and caused four turnovers. He also had three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers against Queens on March 4 before earning two groundballs and three CTs versus Cleveland State March 29.
