LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling sophomores
Patrick Jordon and
Wayne Rold were named 2025 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans in the NCAA Division I men's group as announced by the NWCA Communications office on Wednesday.
This is Jordon's second and Rold's first NWCA Scholar All-American honor. The two Keydets have excelled both on the mat and in the classroom, meeting one of the following criteria for the award:
- Top 8 and a 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and a 3.2 GPA
- Conference qualifier and a 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with a 60% win record and a 3.5 GPA
Jordon, a civil engineering major, started his sophomore campaign hot, winning his first eight matchups en route to 22 victories at 149 pounds The Providence Forge, Virginia, native was ranked 28th in RPI in the first polls in February and posted a team-high 13 falls, once top 10 in the nation in the statistic (February 5). He would go on to be 10-3 in duals with five SoCon wins for a total of 52 dual points. In tournament play, Jordon won the 149 FR/SO bracket at the Southeast Open and the 149 bracket at the Purple Raider Open while placing fourth in the 149C bracket at the Journeymen Wrestling Collegiate Classic. The New Kent product was named the first SoCon Wrestler of the Week of the season and claimed a nationally-ranked win against Campbell.
Rold, a civil engineering major, scored seven wins at 141 pounds, five coming from tournament play. The Augusta, West Virginia, competed in the SoCon Championship in the 141 bracket. He won five of his first seven bouts to start the year and secured third place in the 141E bracket at the Journeymen Wrestling Collegiate Classic.
