Lewis, Schoffstall dubbed VaSID All-State

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling had two Keydets land on the Virginia Sports Information Directors' All-State University Division squad as announced by the organization Tuesday morning.
 
184-pounder Braxton Lewis and 197-pounder Toby Schoffstall each claimed all-state honors in their respective weight classes for the first time in their careers. This marks the first VaSID accolade for VMI since 2021.
 
Lewis led the team with 25 victories, including 13 dual wins, 12 tournament triumphs, and six conference wins, to pair with nine technical falls and 55 dual points at 184 pounds. The Suffolk, Virginia, native was ranked in the top 30 in two media polls (WrestleStat & Intermat) and named SoCon Wrestler of the Week in the second week of the season. Lewis won the 184 bracket at the Purple Raider Open and later placed fourth in the 184 Open at the Southeast Open and in the 184B bracket at the Journeymen Wrestling Collegiate Classic. During the regular season, the junior standout scored a pair of nationally ranked wins in tournament play and scored Power-Five victories over Duke and Virginia. In postseason action, Lewis placed fourth in the SoCon Championships after going 2-2.
 
The sophomore 197-pounder posted 21 victories, going 10-4 in duals and 11-5 in tournaments, while earning four conference wins for 47 dual points. Schoffstall led the team with six major decisions and also tallied seven technical falls and three falls. He picked up one ranked win in conference play and started the season by winning 10 of his first 12 bouts. In postseason action, the Evington, Virginia, product made it to the consolation semifinal round of the SoCon Championship. During regular season tournament play, Schoffstall earned second place in the 197D bracket at the Journeymen Wrestling Collegiate Classic and placed fourth in the 197 bracket at the Purple Raider Open and fifth in the 197 FR/SO bracket at the Southeast Open.
