ASHEVILLE, N.C. – VMI Wrestling ended the 2024-25 campaign with two Keydets placing fourth in the Southern Conference Wrestling Championship Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.
 
Braxton Lewis qualified for the consolation finals but had to medically forfeit before the match. Heavyweight Josh Evans went toe-to-toe with Bellarmine's Daulton Mayer but was defeated by a 4-0 decision. As a team, the Keydets earned a seventh-place mark with 10.5 points.
 
 
Day One Recap
Lewis picked up a first-round decision to move onto the semifinal round, but would be on the wrong end of a major decision and be placed in the consolation bracket. It came down to an exact one minute of riding time for Lewis to secure the 15-14 decision.
 
In the heavyweight bracket, Evans tallied a decision that put him into the semifinals where he lost a tight 4-2 decision. In the consolation semifinals, Evans got the sudden overtime victory, recording a takedown early in the period.
 
Also making it to the consolation semifinals was Toby Schoffstall at 197 pounds. Despite dropping the first matchup, Schoffstall posted a major decision in the consolation bracket to advance to the semifinal where he was taken down by fall.
