VMI men’s team takes fourth at SoCon Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – After another day of excellent marks against stellar competition across the league, the VMI men's track and field team shined Saturday to close the 2025 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

On the men's side, Samford scored 177 points for its sixth straight conference title to outdistance runner-up Western Carolina, which scored 167. Furman was third with 109 and host VMI was fourth with 74.5 points.
 
All-Conference Finishes
*VMI secured 16 points in the men's 400 race, with Nick Brown placing first and Anthony Wilkerson placing third as both earned All-SoCon honors for the event. Brown won the gold in 47.66 seconds and Wilkerson earned a PR in 49.02 seconds
* The 4x400 relay team of Anthony Wilkerson, Ben Hagerich, Xander Topos and Rye Jackson earned All-SoCon honors by placing third in 3:19.93

Excellent Marks
*Kevin Shank placed fifth in the 5000m in 14:45.29
*Destin Moore finished fourth in the 60m finals with a new PR time of 6.93 seconds and freshman Kevin Koumondji finished a split-second later in fifth in 6.97 seconds
*Brown placed fifth in the 200m finals in 22.36 seconds
*Sophomore Rafe Clendenin placed sixth overall in the weight throw with a distance of 15.91 meters
*Freshman Grant Fraser placed sixth in the high jump at 1.78 meters
