Track and Field earns top marks at VMI Winter Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's track and field team achieved excellent times and distances Friday and Saturday to conclude the 2025 VMI Winter Relays at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

The team delivered standout performances throughout the VMI Winter Relays, showcasing talent across sprints, middle-distance, distance, and field events.
 
  • Keyandre Midgett had a stellar meet, claiming first place in the long jump with a leap of 7.42m and securing a sixth-place finish in the 60m dash finals with a time of 7.03. His versatility and explosive power were highlights of the weekend
  • In the 200m dash, Jeremiah Wilks clocked a 22.33 to finish fifth in a competitive field, while freshman Anthony Wilkerson Jr. ran a 23.06, showing promise for future sprints
  • The middle-distance crew was led by Kevin Shank, who finished third in the mile with a time of 4:20.73, followed closely by Benjamin Hagerich in fourth at 4:22.53. Jack Webb also made his mark in the 800m, finishing 12th with a time of 2:03.57
  • In the 3000m run, Patrick Kiernan led the VMI contingent with an 11th-place finish in 9:20.57, while Brian Tavenner and Schuyler Nitzsche followed in 16th and 18th, respectively
  • The DMR team of Hagerich, Richard EdwardsColin Crenshaw and Kevin Shank secured a third-place finish with a time of 10:23.63, demonstrating strong teamwork and strategic racing
  • In the field events, Cameron Thomas soared to first place in the pole vault, clearing 4.76m, while Tyrus James finished fifth with a height of 3.86m. In the high jump, freshman Grant Fraser tied for fourth with a clearance of 1.83m
  • The throws team also impressed, with Elisha Williams leading the way in the shot put, finishing sixth with a mark of 14.46m. Hunter Davis and Rafe Clendenin followed in 8th and 10th, respectively. In the weight throw, Clendenin placed third with a throw of 15.90m
  • In the heptathlon, freshman Rye Jackson delivered a consistent performance, finishing second in the 60m dash (7.40) and securing first in the 1000m run with a time of 2:47.08. His overall performance highlighted his versatility in multi-events
