LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men's Soccer Head Coach
Nick Regan accepted and signed a contract extension, making him the head coach of the Keydets through 2029.
"I am honored to continue leading the VMI men's soccer program through 2029," says Regan. "Over the past four seasons, we have rewritten the recent history of this program. This extension is a reflection of the hard work and resilience of our cadet-athletes and the unparalleled support of our alumni base. Thank you to Lt. Gen. Furness,
Jamaal Walton, and Lenny Brown for believing in this program and entrusting me with guiding these young men. I also want to recognize my assistant,
Jacob Wyrick, for the tremendous job he has done over the past three years."
"Coach Regan's work ethic and dedication to the men's soccer program are appreciated and valued," says VMI Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Jamaal Walton. "The energy, innovation, support, and progress made under Nick's direction are remarkable. We are excited about the future ahead for VMI Men's Soccer."
In 2025, Regan piloted his squad to its first Southern Conference win since 2002, an 87-match skid, and first league victory since 2013 (Big South). VMI conceded 10 SoCon goals during the regular season, the fewest since 1982. Regan led his team to five results against NCAA Division I opponents, the most in 13 years.
Regan led his 2024 group to five or more wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004-05, and recorded three straight results against an NCAA Division I program for the first time since 2010. The year before, in 2023, Regan led the Keydets to five wins, the most for the program in 17 years. This included the first D-I win in nine years and the first D-I road victory in 10 years.
Through his four seasons at the helm, Regan has collected 15 wins as head coach, the third most in program history. The program itself has seen significant improvement as well, earning more wins in four seasons than the previous 13 combined, scoring more goals than the last 10 seasons combined, and achieving the highest average win percentage since the 2002-05 campaigns.
Regan has coached six SoCon Players of the Week and three All-SoCon postseason honorees.
"Four years ago, I stated, 'Under my leadership, we will endeavor to embody everything that this great Institute stands for, and wear the VMI crest with pride every time we step on the field,'" continues Regan. "This remains the foundation of everything we do, and I am excited to see what the next chapter holds."
