Nick Regan rejoined the Keydets in 2022 as the head coach of the VMI Men's Soccer program.
In 2025, Regan piloted his squad to its first Southern Conference win since 2002, an 87-match skid, and first league victory since 2013 (Big South). VMI conceded 10 SoCon goals during the regular season, the fewest since 1982, and, as a team, the Keydets ended the regular season ranked 12th nationally with five saves per game. After defeating Radford in a classic thriller, Regan earned his 14th win, and later his 15th against ETSU, to sit in sole possession of third all-time at VMI for head coaching wins. Regan led his team to five results against NCAA D-I opponents, the most in 13 years. After a successful campaign, Regan signed a contract extension, inking him with VMI through 2029.
Regan led his 2024 group to five or more wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004-05 and recorded three straight results against an NCAA Division I program for the first time since 2010. VMI had two weekly award winners, tallying weekly honors in back-to-back weeks for the first time since 2001, and one postseason accolade.VMI also conceded the fewest goals in a regular season since 1990, with the Keydet goalkeepers combining for four shutouts, the most in 17 years, and helped lead to the highest win percentage in 16 seasons. By the end of the campaign, VMI was ranked 12th in saves per game with over five and 24th in shots per game with nearly 15 among all D-I schools. The Keydets ranked number one in saves per game in the conference. After a shutout victory over Regent, the Keydets became 4-0 at home for the first time since 1994 and the first time the Keydets have ever started a season 4-0 at home. At the time, VMI also recorded a result in four straight matches for the first time since 2007.
In 2023, Regan led the Keydets to five wins, the most for the program in 17 years. This included the first NCAA Division I win in nine years and the first D-I road victory in 10 years. In the spring, the Keydets traveled to the United Kingdom to battle a trio of clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur Academy, picking up a pair of victories in the process.
During his first season as head coach, Regan led the program to multiple program career highs including the most goals scored in nine years, fewest SoCon goals conceded in 40 years, most shut-outs in 14 years, and the first win on Patchin Field in four years. In addition to helping the team concede 45% fewer goals overall than the previous season.
Off the field, Regan oversaw a dramatic improvement in the program's APR rating and athlete retention.
Regan, an assistant coach for the Keydets during the 2021 Spring & Fall seasons, returned to the VMI sidelines after serving as the Director of the House Mountain Soccer Academy.

This led Regan to being picked up by Major League Soccer side Orlando City S.C, U23's whom he signed for in the Summer of 2009 before returning to North Iowa a year later to complete his associates degree.
