LEXINGTON, Va. - One of the best high school track and field coaches in the Commonwealth's history, VMI Head Women's Track and Field Coach Eddie Williams II '83 was recently inducted into the inaugural Bethel High School Athletics Hall of Fame in Hampton, Virginia.

Williams was inducted into the hall in a class that includes former NBA great Allen Iverson, Todd Kelly (San Francisco 49ers), Tony Rutland (Wake Forest basketball) and Olympic Gold Medalist Francena McCorory, who was coached by Williams at Bethel.

At Bethel, Williams guided the Bruins to 11 state girls team titles and three state boys team championships, producing nearly 50 individual state champs in the process. During his tenure at the school, he helped send over 100 athletes to college on a track and field scholarship.

In 2006, he was named the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF) USA National Outdoor Track Coach of the Year.

He was named VMI's head women's track and field coach in August of 2021.
