Armstrong completes run at NCAA East Preliminaries

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Competing against some of the top sprinters in the country, VMI junior Eleyah Armstrong completed her 2024 outdoor season in the 100-meter dash Thursday evening at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Hampton, Virginia, native competed in the sixth and final heat of the event and came in seventh place in her group in 11.80 seconds, which resulted in 46th place overall for the event.

The top 24 athletes will advance to Saturday's quarterfinals with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Oregon next month.  Kaila Jackson of Georgia finished first overall with a facility record time of 10.95 seconds just ahead of Ole Miss' McKenzie Long in second in 11.02 seconds.

Armstrong qualified for nationals by way of her 11.35 time at the SoCon Outdoor Championships two weeks ago, which is both a meet and school record time as she placed first overall as the SoCon champion. She also helped the 4x100 relay squad to All-Conference honors at the meet. On the opening day of the SoCon meet, she earned All-SoCon honors in the long jump with a third-place distance of 5.74 meters.

During the 2024 indoor season, she won both the 60 meter dash and the long jump at the SoCon Indoor Championships to highlight some of her many accomplishments the past six months of competition.
