T&F athletes earn personal records to conclude Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The VMI track and field teams earned several personal records to conclude the second day of competition at the Virginia Challenge held at the University of Virginia's Lannigan Field in Charlottesville.

Women's Track and Field
Freshman Morgan Fraser had the best finish of the day in the women's high jump with a 12th-place height of 1.54m meters. Junior Eleyah Armstrong also performed well in the long jump with a 16th-place distance of 5.68 meters.

Alina LaForest came in 26th overall in the 400m hurdles with a personal record time of 1:05.44. Junior Gretal Shank also ran a lifetime best mark of 2:20.70 for 43rd place in the 800 meter run.

Men's Track and Field
*Senior Liam McBride finished eighth in the 110m hurdles with a season-best time of 14.33 seconds. Xander Topos also performed well in the race in 15th in 14.82 seconds, a new PR
*The 4x100 relay squad of Keyandre Midgett, Jacob Garnett, McBride and Jeremiah Wilks placed eighth with a season-best time of 42.12 seconds
*The 4x400 grouping of Nick Brown, Topos, Garnett and Wilks came in eighth with a season-best time of 3:14.63
*Topos again placed 15th in the 400m hurdles in 54.22 seconds, a season best
*Senior Andrew Granger showed out in the hammer throw with a 12th-place distance of 57.57 meters
*Freshman Jacob Garnett came in 14th in the 200m with a new PR time of 21.28 seconds
*Senior Charles Male finished 15th in the long jump at 6.93 meters
*Sophomore Benjamin Hagerich came in 37th overall with a PR time of 1:54.23
