VMI Track and Field teams earn PRs at JMU Invite

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Preparing for the SoCon Outdoor Championships just a few weeks away, the VMI track and field teams registered personal bests and earned excellent finishes Saturday at the JMU Invite in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Freshman distance runner Jillian Sisk had the top finish of the day for the Keydets by finishing third in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:56.49.

In the triple jump, Julie Freitas came in fifth overall with a distance of 11.28 meters, and Isabelle Cabales competed in the javelin throw with a seventh-place distance of 22.31 meters, a new personal record.

Excellent Finishes
*Junior Gretal Shank finished seventh in the 1500m run with a time of 5:06.05. Teammate Nathalie Lavender arrived in 12th in the race in 5:17.77.
*Sophomore Alina LaForest placed ninth in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.70, a new personal record
*Shank also competed in the 800 meter and placed 12th overall in 2:24.10
*In the shot put, senior Jenna Kirkland finished 14th overall at 11.70m, and teammate Diamond Baker came in 15th at 11.04m
*Kirkland competed in the discus and placed 14th overall at 35.30m as well as the hammer throw where she finished 15th overall at 38.81m
*SeMore Green arrived in 16th place in the 400m in 59.73 seconds

Select athletes will compete at the UVA Challenge next weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.
