VMI Track and Field teams earn PRs at JMU Invite

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Preparing for the SoCon Outdoor Championships just a few weeks away, the VMI track and field teams registered personal bests and earned excellent finishes Saturday at the JMU Invite in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
 
Senior Liam McBride had one of the top finishes of the day for the Keydets by placing second overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54 seconds.
 
Sophomore Ben Hagerich also came in second in his 800 meter race with a time of 1:55.51.
 
In the 1500m run, freshmen Kevin Shank and Patrick Lowry led the way with respective third and fourth-place finishes. Shank finished in 4:05.57 and Lowry was just a split second behind at 4:05.67.
 
Excellent Finishes
*Nick Brown came in third in the 400m in 48.18 seconds
*In the 400m hurdles, senior Xander Topos arrived in third in 54.72 seconds
*Freshman Rafe Clendenin earned a new personal best in the discus at 47.75 meters
*Tyrus James placed fourth overall in the pole vault at 3.65m
*Freshman Colin Crenshaw led the way in the 3000m steeple in fifth place in 10:26.72 just ahead of senior Andrew Hirneisen in sixth at 10:28.76
*Senior Andrew Granger placed fifth in the hammer throw at 54.65 meters, while Clendenin was close behind in eighth at 49.57 meters, a new personal record
*Jacob Garnett came in fifth in the 200m with a new PR time of 21.62 seconds and was followed by Nick Brown in sixth at 21.64 seconds
*Topos finished seventh in the 110m hurdles in 15.04 seconds
*The 4x100 relay squad of Keyandre Midgett, Jacob Garnett, Liam McBride and Charles Male placed seventh in 44.31 seconds
*Hunter Davis led the throwers in the shot put by placing ninth at 14.44m while Christian Hyman (12th, 13.18m) and Elisha Williams (13th, 12.78m)
*Lowry and Shank also compete in the 800m, finishing 11th and 12th, respectively
*Midgett placed 11th in the 100 meter dash in a new PR time of 10.81 seconds and was followed by Charles Male's time of 11.02 seconds – a new PR – in 16th place
*Freshman Michael Jorgensen placed 12th overall in 9:43.91 seconds
