MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The VMI Rifle squads capped off their 2023-24 regular season on Saturday, competing in an NCAA Qualifier (marks announced Monday) hosted by top-ranked West Virginia.
The VMI Mixed team - which is currently T-20th in the country - scored a 4592, while the women's squad registered a 4415, both falling short of the Mountaineers' 4751. The 2341 score in the air rifle by the mixed squad is a new program record for the Keydets. Â
Although West Virginia had much of the individual scoring,
Ryan Harlow had the best performance for VMI, posting an aggregate of 1156.
Christopher Hicks was just behind him, shooting a 1154 including a 587 in the air rifle. Phillip Frey only competed in the air rifle, shooting a 587 in that event, while Harlow and Zachary Mauiello each had 584's.Â
Victoria Phillips and Katelyn Grochalski matched each other in the air rifle as well, each firing a 578.
What's Next
The Keydets set their sights on the Southern Conference Championship, which will be held March 2-3 in Charleston, South Carolina.
