CHARLESTON, S.C. - The VMI Rifle program competed in day one of the 2023 Southern Conference Rifle Championship on Saturday in Charleston, South Carolina, as Christopher Hicks fired a 567 in the smallbore to tie him for 10th place in the event.
VMI's mixed team sits in fifth place with a total of 2234, with the women's team in sixth totaling a score of 2199. Georgia Southern, North Georgia and The Citadel – who rank 16th, 18th, and 20th respectively in the nation – sit in first through third, while Alabama Birmingham is fourth.
In addition to Hicks, Maxine Gray-Barth totaled a 560 in the smallbore to sit in 20th individually with Kolton Dobson's 558 putting him in 22nd.
Championship action will conclude on Sunday with air rifle action beginning at 7:45 a.m. and the finals scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m.Â
