Rocco rounds out football staff with Jones, Mack

Wood promoted to Special Teams Coordinator

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Football Head Coach Danny Rocco rounded out his coaching staff for the 2023 season, adding Keith Jones and Charles Mack to the Keydets coaching personnel.

Jones will step in as the running backs coach while Mack will serve as the director of player personnel and safeties coach.

A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Kenyon College (DIII), Jones has coaching experience at the Division I, Division III and high school levels. Jones joins VMI after time spent at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, where he was the team's pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach, helping the program reach the Division 2-AA Semifinals. Prior to Franklin Road, Jones worked for Vanderbilt as a graduate assistant for offensive line while attaining his master's degree. Responsible for scouting report breakdowns, Jones helped coach players such as 2019 NFL Draft pick Justin Skule while recruiting for the University. Jones got his coaching start where he played his collegiate ball, working his way up to offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in his last two years at Kenyon (2016-18).

Mack is no stranger to the Commonwealth or Coach Rocco, playing his collegiate ball at University of Richmond before coaching at both his alma mater and nearby University of Virginia. In his junior season, Mack helped Richmond reach the FCS semifinal, with the Spiders qualifying for the FCS Quarterfinal the next year. After his playing career, Mack worked at the Bon Secours Washington Football Team Training Center before delving into a career in college athletics that included stops at Richmond and Georgia where he helped oversee athletic facilities. In 2019, Mack would join Virginia's staff as a regional scout before serving as both an offensive and defensive graduate assistant for the Wahoos, earning his master's degree in social and philosophical foundations.

In an additional move, Greg Wood had been promoted from Specialists Coach to Special Teams Coordinator.
