WORCESTER, Mass. – The VMI men's and women's swimming and diving teams started the four-day America East Championships strong on Wednesday, setting two new school records. The meet is hosted by hosted by the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Chino Vera,
Chase Lane,
Malik Nelson and
Jack Sheehan set a new team record in the men's 200 medley relay, placing fifth, while
Noelle Tong,
Anne Bowles,
Jillian Maher and
Kate Taylor set a new team record in the women's 200 medley relay, placing seventh.
Bridger Thurston finished sixth in the 1 meter diving final.
Lane Jones finished 12
th place in the men's 1m diving competition and
London Yerasimides finished 12
th on the 3m, and
Ella Davenport finished 18th.
In the 800 free relay
Rachel Greathouse,
Valerie Tonnu,
Anna Grace Adams and
Sarah Liebenow finished seventh and on the men's side,
Connor Doyle,
Conner Jorgensen,
Collin Marks and
Ethan Griffith finished sixth.
"This evening was a great start for our team with Bridger, London and Lane putting up great points for us on the boards, and our medley relays setting new team records," said head coach
Scott Thacker. "The team is fired up and we are ready for day two."
