LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team will compete in the Navy Quad Meet Sunday with matches against Pittsburgh and Morgan State Universities as well as the host school. The Panthers are ranked no. 16 in the latest Division I national top 25 poll, and the Midshipmen also received votes.
The Keydets will face off with Pittsburgh at noon, Navy at 1:30 p.m. and Morgan State at 3 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
Title Winner:
Sophomore
Braxton Lewis won the title in the 174-pound Freshman/Sophomore Division Saturday as VMI opened the 2023-24 season with an impressive performance at the Southeast Open at Roanoke College's Cregger Center.
Lewis was dominant in his first three matches to reach the title bout, winning two by technical fall and one by pin in just 53 seconds. He defeated his opponent from Chattanooga 12-6 in the championship match.

Tyler Mousaw placed sixth in the open division at 285 pounds, winning one match by fall and one by major decision.

Keydets placed in the freshman/sophomore division, including two at 133 pounds.
Dyson Dunham took third and Austin
Zehring finished sixth in the weight class.

Eric Doran placed fourth at 149 in the freshman/sophomore bracket, while
Ryan Vigil took sixth.

Toby Schoffstall placed fifth at 184 pounds.
