Freshman Jillian Sisk led the way for the VMI women's team by placing 151st overall in the 6K race with a time of 22:39.0. The race was a nice way to finish for the Richmond, Virginia, native who earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors at the recent SoCon Championship race. Junior Gretal Shank also represented the women's team and finished in 207th place overall with a time of 24:03.7.

NC State won the team award by finishing first overall with 52 points from its top five runners. SoCon champion Furman came in second with 82 points and was pursued closely by the University of Virginia's 123 points.

On the VMI men's side, SoCon Freshman of the Year honoree Kevin Shank represented VMI well by placing 121st overall with a 10K time of 31:45.3, just ahead of fellow freshman Patrick Lowry's time of 32:17.5 for 146th place. Junior Patrick Kiernan also ran for the Keydets and finished in 211th place in 34:39.3.

North Carolina won the men's team competition with 38 points on the day ahead of second-place Eastern Kentucky's 72 points. NC State tallied 106 points for third place.

VMI Director of Cross Country Zack Scott
"Our women ran strong again at a national level meet with Sisk leading the way. She finished with a three mile PR of 17:50 for a 6K race. The women finished the season a little closer to our potential. Recruiting two-three more quality distance runners will be the key to next year's women's cross country team success.

"The men's team was led by our two freshman sensations, Kevin Shank and Patrick Lowry, for our final cross country meet in their first collegiate 10K race. We are ready to move indoor and build a stronger distance event group for this season."
