Rifle Teams Show Well in Tri-Match at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Looking for continued success in its second match of the 2023 calendar year, the VMI mixed and women's rifle teams performed well at a tri-match hosted by The Citadel Saturday morning in Charleston, South Carolina.
 
The Air Force Academy took home the top honors with an aggregate score of 4718 (2341 SB, 2377 AR) followed by host The Citadel's 4607 (2290 SB, 2317 AR). The VMI mixed team came in third with 4542 points (2242 SB, 2300 AR) and the VMI women placed fourth with 4436 points (2151 SB, 2285 AR). The Citadel arrived in fifth with 4407 points (2131 SB, 2276 AR).
 
In the smallbore competition, Christopher Hicks led the mixed team with a seventh-place mark of 574 and was followed by Ryan Harlow's 13th-place tally of 560 points. Michael Annesi also earned a top-15 finish by placing 14th overall with 556 smallbore points.
 
Maxine Gray-Barth led the VMi women with a 553 smallbore tally and was succeeded by Katie Grochalski (547) and Victoria Phillips (537).
 
Senor Philip Frey led the VMI mixed team in the air rifle segment by placing 10th overall with 582 points and was followed by Cassidy Dufour's mark of 581. Hicks also logged one of the top finishes on the team with a 580 score.
 
Katie Grochalski led the VMI women in the air rifle by finishing 13th overall with 580 points just ahead of Laini Morgan's 578. Gray-Barth logged a 577 air rilfe, and Victoria Phillips placed 20th overall with a 550.
