Jenkins Qualifies for NCAA East Regional in Steeple

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – VMI senior Gavin Jenkins and junior D. Alex Fiorillo competed at the Lee Last Chance Meet looking to qualify for the NCAA East Regional in the 5000 meter and 1500 meter, respectively, Saturday night hosted by Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
 
Sitting at No. 30 on the Top 48 for the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Jenkins ended up sitting out the steeplechase given his qualifying mark of 8:49.52 from earlier this season and did not compete in the event Saturday night. He will race the steeplechase at the NCAA East Regional slated for May 26-28 hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
 
Jenkins did compete in the 5K Saturday and finished 11th overall with a time of 14:39.10, which does not quite reach the mark to qualify for the East Regional in that event.
 
Fiorillo placed 27th overall in the 1500 meter with a time of 3:57.84 to complete his outdoor season Saturday night.
