Track and Field Teams Earn Stellar Marks at JMU Invite

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The VMI track and field teams earned excellent marks Saturday at the James Madison Invitational held at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to prep for the SoCon Outdoor Championships in two weeks.

Solomon Ghosh placed first in the discus throw with a distance of 49.18 meters, just short of his VMI record of 51.99 last week at George Mason. Ghosh also competed in the shot put and placed third overall at 13.80 meters. Herbert Brooks came in fourth in the shot at 13.44 meters.

D. Alex Fiorillo arrived in first in the 1500m with a time of 4:02.48, and teammate Andre Jordan finished close behind in third in 4:05.52.

Freshman Charles Male finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.82 meters, and Ty Wesenyak placed second in the javelin throw at 53.10 meters. Ty Hevener finished close behind in fourth at 49.08 meters.

Andrew Hirneisen finished second in the 3000 meter steeple in 10:15.38, and Craig Swain placed fourth in 10:41.28. In the 800 meter, Zach Lauster finished second in 1:55.61 and Adam Waite placed third in 1:55.92.

Pole vaulter Hunter Reed came in fourth at 4.00 meters and Kevin Linko posted the same mark to tie for fourth.

The Keydets return to action next weekend at the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
