LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking for continued improvement in preparing for next month's SoCon Championships, the VMI track and field teams closed out the VMI Winter Relays with successful finishes and personal bests Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington.

Senior sprinter Jordin Poindexter highlighted the day for the Keydets with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 21.34 seconds. Freshman Jeremiah Wilks also had a great performance with a sixth-place time of 22.11 seconds for the event.

Sophomore Keyandre Midgett also earned a spotlight by placing first in the long jump at 6.92 meters.

"There were great performances throughout the weekend for the men's team moving up the Southern Conference performance lists," said VMI Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Zack Scott. "Jordin Poindexter currently leads the Southern Conference in the 60m at 6.77 and 200m at 21.34. Richard Edwards' second-place finish with a personal-best time of 50.02 pushed him up the Southern Conference list along with Zach Lauster's third-place 800m finish put them both in the top 5 in the 400m and 800m Southern Conference lists.

"As more teams in the Southern Conference add to the performance lists we begin to get a look at the Southern Conference.  We are finding that we are getting better in the right events with four weeks left until the championships."

Earlier in the day, Poindexter finished second overall in the 60-meter dash final with a personal record time of 6.77 seconds, just two hundredths of a second behind the leader.

Midgett came in third in the 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.26 seconds.

Kevin Linko finished the heptathlon in third place with 3779 points and Hunter Reed placed fourth with 3611 points.
