LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's and women's swimming team had several outstanding performances Saturday at Washington & Lee University in the W&L Natatorium. The Generals won the men's (174-87) and women's (195-60) team scoring.
The VMI men's 200 yard medley relay team of Connor Doyle, Jack Sheehan, Tyler Blackwell and Dalton Cosner took second in 1:38.71. Cosner won the 100 free in 48.89, was second in the 200 IM in 2:02.49 and placed fourth in the 200 free in 1:51.74. Doyle was first in the 200 back in 1:58.71 and placed second in the 100 back in 54.36. Jack Sheehan captured the 200 breast in 2:12.87 and was second in the 100 breast (1:00.04) and Ryan Cooper won the 200 IM in 2:02.36.
Sam Chopper was second in the 1000 free in 10:31.84 and Ethan Griffith was second in the 200 fly in 2:00.44. Conner Jorgensen was third in the 500 free, Collin Marks placed fourth in the 50 free and Tyler Blackwell paced VMI in 100 fly, taking fourth. The 400 free relay team of Doyle, Chopper, Sheehan and Marks finished third in 3:18.54.
Anne Bowles paced the Keydet women's team with two victories; in the 100 (1:10.43) and 200 breast (2:38.47). Rachel Greathouse won the 200 free in 1:59.74 and finished second in the 500 free in 5:22.01. Ruki Sarkari was third in the 100 back in 1:04.27 and Sarah Liebenow took fourth in the 1000 free in 11:53.20. Courtney Novotny and Carter Wasser each took fourth in the 100 free (58.18) and 200 back (2:20.34), respectively. Novotny was fifth in the 200 IM, Jessica Cox was fifth in the 100 fly and Kate Taylor was fifth in the 50 free.
The 200 medley relay team of Wasser, Bowles, Isabella DeCosta and Greathouse finished in 1:58.12 and DeCosta, Jillian Maher, Taylor and Greathouse teamed up to finish the 400 free relay in 3:53.03.
The Keydets will be back in action Feb. 10-13 at the America East Conference Championships, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
