Rifle Teams Compete Well at NCAA Qualifier

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI rifle teams fell in a close match against North Georgia in an NCAA Qualifier Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall.
 
North Georgia came out on top with 4610 total aggregate points (2259 SB, 2351 AR). The VMI mixed team placed second with 4479 aggregate points (2203 SB, 2276 AR), while the women's team came in third place earning 4389 aggregate points (2148 SB, 2241 AR).
 
Junior Jessica Hankin led both VMI teams with a fourth-place overall finish, leading VMI in air rifle competition and second in the smallbore. Sophomore Nicholas Schaefer was close behind to earn fourth in smallbore action and 13th in the air rifle for second place among VMI individuals.
 
Sophomore Kolton Dobson had a great showing to earn eighth in the smallbore (551 SB) and 11th in air rifle (564 AR) competition. Simon Krauthamer added points with a 10th place finish in the smallbore (550 SB) and 14th in the air rifle (561 AR). James Doucett, Samantha Reid, J. Nathaniel Gardner and Philip Frey also added points for the mixed team.
 
On the women's team, freshman Maxine Gray-Barth led the team in the smallbore (550 SB) and air rifle (567 AR) to earn top ten finishes. Savanah Diamond was close behind to place second among the women's team in both categories.
 
Junior Claire Lee came in third among the women's team after a tie in the smallbore (544 SB) against Diamond. Cassidy Dufour and Carlie Shaffer also added points for the women's team to round out the top five.

The Keydets will remain at home to host the Southern Conference Championships March 6-7 at Kilbourne Hall.
