Track and Field Hosts VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – As a final tune up to the SoCon Championships in two weeks, the VMI track and field teams will host the VMI Winter Classic this Friday and Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Due to Covid-19 protocols on the VMI post, no spectators will be admitted to the CPTF in 2021. Live results will be provided by https://snaptiming.com.

The last time out, Ariana Ruffin shined with first place finishes in both the 200 (24.85) and 400-meter (57.09), with Ahliyah Williams and Marissa Linkous coming in second and third in the 500-meter, respectively. Nia Vaughan earned a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter.

Junior Jordin Poindexter placed second in the 60-meter (6.96) and third in the 200-meter (22.05), with Jonathan Gray in eighth in the 200 (22.73). Gray and Johnnie Walker ran a 49.69 in the 400-meter to earn second and third place in the event.

VMI claimed top five spots in the 1000-meter led by Trent Whittaker and Gavin Jenkins. Walt Kitson, Zach Lauster, and Stephen Kelley rounded out the top five. Stephen Munson and Max Burke performed well in the heptathlon.

In field events, Stephanie Jones came in fourth in weight throw, with Ariel Endicott placing 10th overall. Ellie Miller placed third in the shot put with distance of 11.15 meters. For the men, Solomon Ghosh earned fourth-place in shot put, with Herbert Brooks and Andrew Grander with fourth and fifth place finishes in weight throw.

On Friday, the track events begin at 1 p.m., with field events beginning at noon. Saturday's track events will begin at 11 a.m., with field having a 10 a.m. start.
