VMI will christen its newly resurfaced Mondo 200-meter track inside the CPTF.

What began as an annual intrasquad meet designed to create competitive opportunities before exams and Christmas Furlough has grown into a small collegiate meet featuring JMU, Carson-Newman, Southern Virginia and Washington & Lee.

The meet will utilize the facility's Mondo 200m hydraulic oval and 60m straightaway, along with dual long/triple jump pits, dual high jump pits, dual pole vault runways, and a dedicated throws sector. The focus will be on short sprints, middle distance, and technical events, giving athletes an early chance to record marks and relay splits.

VMI Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Zack Scott '89
"We've always used this meet to sharpen our team and test our timing system before the indoor season gets underway. With the new Mondo surface and upgraded field event layout in the CPTF, it made sense to invite a few nearby quality programs and turn it into a competitive early-season opportunity that still fits within that pre-exam window. It's a great way to honor Colonel Bev Read's legacy with meaningful competition on our home track. The 2026 season is set up for fast competition and big marks and we're looking forward to seeing a lot of records fall."
