VMI Football Inks Eight on December Signing Day

LEXINGTON, Va. – Virginia Military Institute head coach Scott Wachenheim today announced eight signees to the 2022 recruiting class on the first day of the December signing period. 
 
"I am extremely thankful for the efforts of my coaching and administrative support staff in recruiting such fine young men to be future cadet-athletes at Virginia Military Institute," said VMI head coach Scott Wachenheim. "The young men that signed with us today possess the character, academic background, and athletic ability to compete for championships in the classroom and on the athletic fields."

Michael Perry, OL, 6-3, 275, Saint Michael the Archangel, Fredericksburg, Va.
Earned First Team All-State honors as an offensive lineman and Second Team All-State accolades as a defensive lineman.

Isaiah Crockett, WR, 6-5, 200, Gar-Field High School, Woodbridge, Va.
 
Isaiah Lemmond, WR, 6-0, 185, Broad Run HS, Sterling Va.
Named a First Team All-Region wide receiver
 
Ivan Thorpe, Jr., WR, 5-10, 170, Springside Chesnut Hill Academy, Philadelphia, Pa.
Earned a team-high 40 receptions for 559 yards and three touchdowns as a senior despite missing four games due to injury …. First Team All-Conference honoree … recorded 183 receiving yards against Cheltenham HS.
 
Ebenezer McCarthy, RB, 5-11, 190, Albemarle HS, Charlottesville, Va.
First Team All-Jefferson District running back as a senior … had a 178-yard, two-touchdown performance in just one half against Monticello … ran for more than 500 yards and scored six touchdowns in six games for the Patriots as a junior to earn All-Central Virginia accolades … also played safety … honor roll student.
 
Tyrel Dobson, LB, 5-11, 195, Radford HS, Radford, Va.
District and Region Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, repeating as the District DPOY … named All-District First Team at linebacker and running back … Second Team All-State linebacker … compiled 94 tackles (50 solo), 18 tackles for loss, five sacks and one interception on defense as a senior and racked up 599 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 81 carries on offense … earned ColorsVA Scholar of the Month for May 2020 … a three-time All-Region linebacker … also competed in basketball and track and field. 
 
Kouri Crump, DB, 6-3, 180, William A. Hough HS, Charlotte, N.C.
Two-year letterman ... team captain ... played in 22 games in less than 12 months due to Covid and helped team to 22-2 record over that span ... accounted for more than 100 tackles, including eight TFLs, and had nine PBUs, two interceptions and six sacks ... team-high 14 tackles vs. Mooresville in first start as a junior to earn Max Preps Player of the Game honors ... selected to play in the Queen City All-Star Game ... owns a 4.0 GPA, served as an after-school tutor, member of the National Junior Honor Society and National Society of High School Scholars ... certified in Autodesk and Autocad ... father played football and basketball at Elizabeth City State University ... also competed in track and field and played AAU basketball.
 
Stephen Dean III, LB, 6-2, 205, Louisa County HS, Mineral, Va.
A two-time Jefferson District Player of the Year … First-team All-Region linebacker ... in his junior season, he posted a team-high 70 tackles to go along with three sacks in seven games … also registered 9.5 tackles for loss and forced a pair of fumbles … also played wide receiver.
