Rifle Teams Come up Short against North Georgia

LEXINGTON, Va. – Competing in its first Southern Conference match of the season, the VMI rifle teams came up short against North Georgia Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall.
 
North Georgia took first with 4591 aggregate points (2253 SB, 2338 AR), the VMI mixed team placed second with 4527 points (2221 SB, 2306 AR) and the VMI women came in third with 4402 points (2135 SB, 2267 AR).
               
The VMI mixed team was led by Jessica Hankin in the smallbore with a 565 tally for second place followed by Simon Krauthamer in seventh overall with a 554. Stephen Garner placed eighth with a 554 while Kolton Dobson also earned team points with a 548 for 10th place overall. Samantha Reid, Christopher Hicks and Philip Frey also shot the smallbore for the team.
 
In the air rifle, the mixed team was paced by Christopher Hicks' third-place mark of 582 and Samantha Reid followed in fifth place with a 580 tally. Hankin (7th) and Austin Rheuby (9th) also scored team points with their respective scores of 576 and 571. Krauthamer also competed and shot a 568 for 12th place overall.
 
The VMI women were led by Cassidy Dufour in the smallbore with an 11th-place mark of 547 and Claire Lee was in close pursuit in 12th with a 546. Victoria Phillips arrived in 16th with a 523 and Katie Grochalski earned the final team points with a 17th-place mark of 519 points.  Maxine Gray-Barth logged a 515 for 18th overall while Savanah Diamond registered a 564 for 15th place.
 
In the air rifle segment, the VMI women were led by Lee's 569 points for 10th place while Grochalski came in 11th with a 569. Dufour tallied a 565 for 13th place and Gray-Barth logged a 564 for 14th place. Phillips (18th, 548) and Laini Morgan (19th, 533) also shot for the team in the air rifle.
 
The Keydets return to action in two weeks when they travel to Morehead, Kentucky, to face Morehead State on October 30.
