Results - UofSC Indoor Open
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Making final preparations for next week's Southern Conference Indoor Championships, the VMI track and field teams were well-represented at the University of South Carolina Indoor Open contested Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina.
Junior
Sarah Leckman finished seventh in the women's shot put with a distance of 13.34 meters while teammate
Maura Logan arrived in 10
th at 12.26 meters. Leckman would later place 12
th in the weight throw at 13.39 meters and
Stephanie Jones came in 15
th overall at 13.00 meters even.
For the men's throwing events,
Daniel Usher finished second in the shot at 14.18 meters and teammate
Solomon Ghosh came in fifth at 13.80 meters.
In the men's pole vault,
Griffin Kowal had an excellent showing by placing fifth overall at 4.55 meters. On the women's side,
McKenna Dunna tied for 11
th with a height of 3.37 meters.
Transitioning to the men's races, sophomore
Jordin Poindexter placed ninth in the 60 meterin 6.95 seconds. He would later compete in the 200 meter and arrive in 13
th overall in 22.00 seconds flat.
In the women's 60 meter, sophomore
Ingrid Joseph came in 17
th place in 8.01 seconds.
In the women's 200, junior
Ariana Ruffin paced the Keydets in 18
th place overall in 25.53 seconds ever slightly before Joseph arrived in 25.53.
Ahliyah Williams competed and placed 25
th in the event in 25.95 seconds.
VMI head coach Darrin Webb:
"Overall, I thought this meet was a great tune up for the conference championship. I was especially pleased with the men's and women's 400m. Ahliyah moved up to the top 5 just behind Marissa and Ariana.
Jonathan Gray,
Johnnie Walker, and
Rafael Mas all had season-best performances that will put them all in the top 10 of the conference leading into next week's championships. It was important to have good races this weekend but also to come out of the meet healthy and ready to go next week."
