PRINCETON, N.J. – The VMI track and field teams concluded the 2019 outdoor track and field season with several notable performances Sunday at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey.
Senior Tiffany Quick closed out the ECAC discus throw by placing seventh in the field to finish her VMI career. Sarah Leckman placed 18th in the shot put at a distance of 12.72 meters.
Women's sophomore Ariana Ruffin came in 11th place in the 200-meter dash in 24.99 seconds in difficult racing conditions.
Freshman Jordin Poindexter ran a time of 11.13 seconds in the 100-meter dash. His teammate Blaine Ashton competed in the triple jump and arrived in 20th place in 12.17 seconds. Both would later compete in the 200-meter finals with Poindexter placing 21st in 22.42 seconds and Ashton in 31st in 22.72 seconds.
James Granderson hit a hurdle in the 110-meter hurdles and was required to stop his race.
“We had some really good performances, especially considering the weather today,” said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. “I thought Shahbaz, Ruffin, Jenkins, and Quick had an outstanding weekend, especially Quick and Ruffin who competed today.
“I think everyone prepared and came ready to compete. I am proud of how this team battled throughout the year. I am confident they will all work hard over the summer and come back next fall that much better, and that much better prepared to accomplish each of their individual and team goals.”
Rafael Mas ran the 400-meter in 51.86 seconds to place 30th overall in the field.
The men's 4x400 group of Jonathan Gray, Rafael Mas, Johnnie Walker and Jahanzib Shahbaz came in ninth place in 3:24.96 for an excellent showing in the event.
