LEWISBURG, Pa. - Julia Logan tied for fourth in the high jump, leading VMI track and field's efforts on the opening day of the Bison Outdoor Classic, contested Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.
Logan cleared 1.70 meters (5'7") to tie with Samantha Hjemar of Buffalo for fourth, trailing athletes from Penn State and Cornell.
Logan's teammates were paced by Bethany King's 17:32.60 time in the invitational section of the 5K. The time was good for 42nd place and was the third straight meet King had set a PR, all in a different event. Finally, King's time was the fourth-fastest 5K in the SoCon this season.
In addition, Anna Armfield moved into the top-25 in the SoCon with an 18:57.40 time in the unseeded section of the 5K (24th).
On the men's side, Jahanzib Shahbaz set a new seasonal best in the 5K and moved into seventh in the conference with a 14:55.39 effort. Shahbaz finished 38th in the event. Donovan Walton also posted his second straight solid meet, finishing 30th in the javelin with a seasonal best effort of 49.91 M/163'9".
"We had good results today at an excellent, deep meet," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "Especially in the distances, this meet is traditionally very strong and today was no exception. We rose to the occasion and look forward to more great competition tomorrow."
VMI track and field will return to action Sunday, when the Bison Outdoor Classic resumes at 9:30 a.m.
