S&D Falls to W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. - John Kim swept the men's backstroke events, but the VMI swimming and diving team dropped both ends of a dual meet with crosstown opponent Washington & Lee Saturday at the Generals' home pool in Lexington. The VMI men (1-7) fell 168.5-90.5, while the Keydet women (0-9) lost 158-68.

Kim was VMI's lone victor on the day, as he touched the wall on 52.59 in the 100 back and 1:56.59 in the 200 back. The times were not seasonal bests for Kim, but he does remain ranked third and fourth in the America East in those events, respectively.

The Keydet men had three runner-up results, with Ryan Schmitz finishing second in the 50 free (21.93), David Turbyfill doing so in the 1000 free (10:15.19) and Michael Morrison placing second in the 100 breast (1:00.87).

For the VMI women, Natalie Rivas (50/100 free) and McKenzie Raber (500 free) were scored second with the third-fastest times of the day in their respective events. Raber touched the wall in 5:35.01 and Rivas did so in 25.75 and 57.45 seconds.

VMI swimming and diving will return to action Saturday in a tri-meet against UMBC and East Carolina. Action in Baltimore gets underway at 1 p.m.
