Anderson's Efforts and 4X800 Relay Lead Keydets at Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Bria Anderson won the 60-meter dash in the second-fastest time in school history, and won the long jump in an ECAC qualifying effort as well to lead VMI track and field efforts on the opening day of the Virginia Tech Challenge, contested Friday in Blacksburg, Va.

Anderson's victory in the 60, a 7.70 time, was second only to Kerisha Goode's 7.69 time from earlier this season. She led a VMI sweep of the podium in the event, with Mia McClain's 7.72 also coming in under the ECAC standard, while Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe was third. Anderson was also a standout in the long jump Friday, when she finished third with a 5.70 M/18'8 1/2" leap to also hit the ECAC qualifying mark in that event.

The women's 4X800-meter relay was also notable Friday, as the runner-up VMI squad set a new school record and posted an ECAC qualifying time as well. Bethany King, Julianne Knoblett, Christina Hill and Logan Luckett teamed up for the 9:22.03 time.

Other results on the women's side included Agyepong-Wiafe finishing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.70), McClain placing fifth in the 200 (25.51) and Kennedy Flynn finishing seventh in the 800 (2:25.93).

On the men's side, Greg Henderson's winning streak ended, but he still finished second in both of his events. Henderson timed in at 6.82 in the 60 and 22.05 in the 200 to record the runner-up finishes.

Grant Holmes was the victor in the unseeded portion of the pole vault (4.75 M/15'7"), while the men's 4X800-meter relay was victorious in 7:53.13. Finally, Luke Phillips was fourth in the 800 (1:57.23) and James Granderson finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.75).

VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, when the Keydets wrap up action at the Virginia Tech Challenge. Action gets underway at 11 a.m.
