CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Davon Guerrier moved into the conference lead in the 110-meter hurdles, while Bria Anderson took the SoCon lead in the long jump as the VMI track and field teams wrapped up action at the Charlotte Invitational Saturday in Charlotte, N.C.
Guerrier took the SoCon lead in his best event, the 110-meter hurdles, by timing in at 14.38 seconds for a third place finish. He was also finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles, timing in at 55.14 seconds, a time that ranks him sixth in the conference.
Other results on the men's side included Deondre Anderson finishing 10th in the 400-meters with a time of 49.34 seconds. Anderson moved into fifth in the conference, one spot ahead of Andrew Gould. Gould finished 11th Saturday with a time of 49.37. In addition, Josh Willard finished second in the main section of the 800 (1:55.02), Jordan White was eighth in the discus (46.28 M/151'10") and the 4X400-meter relay that included Anderson, Willard, Gould and Avery Martin finished fourth in 3:21.04.
On the women's side, Anderson led the way with a 5.72 meter runner-up effort in the long jump (18'9 1/4"). She also finished 11th in the 100-meters (12.41 seconds). Mia McClain finished fourth in the long jump (5.59 M/18'4 1/4"), and Christina Hill led three Keydets in the 800-meters with a seventh-place finish (2:22.59).
"This was a quality meet with good competition," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "We continued to move up the conference rankings this weekend, as six athletes took the SoCon lead in their respective events. Numerous others moved into scoring position, which is a positive from any weekend. We continue to show a great deal of progression as a team and look forward to seeing even more next weekend at Bucknell."
VMI track and field will return to action April 23, when the Keydets take part in the Bison Team Challenge in Lewisburg, Pa.
